The position of the seven candidates over the issues of terrorism, security, reconciliation, etc are quite clear, but when it comes to their position on economic policy it is still a mystery.  Candidates of the Algeria presidential election of mid-April 1999 remain very hesitant to talk about economics.  In fact, a debate over their economic platform that was scheduled for the end of March 1999 was canceled for no clear reason.  This article attempts to provide some information on the position of each candidates in the area of economy.
