EXPECT
BUSY SKIES

The airline sector in the Maghreb region is expanding at a fast pace.  National carriers in Morocco and Tunisia are signing major partnership deals with global airlines as they modernize their fleet, while Algeria’s private sector has entered a new phase in its development.  Meanwhile international carriers - Europeans in particular - are preparing to return to two countries that have been isolated over the last few years.

A SUCCESSFUL TOURISM               SEASON
Summer ’99 could be a record year for the Moroccan tourism industry. Each month since the beginning of the year, hotels in major tourist areas have been witnessing a rising occupancy rate and tourists have been arriving in massive numbers.

UGTA LABOR UNION THREATENS PRESIDENT
The UGTA Labor Union demanded president Bouteflika to rehire all workers that have been laid off from state-owned enterprises over the last few years.  The organization says that the reinsertion of workers into the workforce is a condition for its support of the president’s peace plan, which will also be submitted to a  referendum in September.

SNI HOLDING STRENGTHENS POSITION IN AGRIBUSINESS
The SNI Group (Societe National d’Investissement) has
