GIA ACTIONS CONTINUE WHILE SCORES OF REBELS SURRENDER TO THE MILITARY

On September 8, 52 members of a terrorist combat unit 'El-Hooda Wa-Nor' surrendered to security forces in El Hamra-Texenna, which is in the province of Jijel in eastern Algeria. The group included four women and eight children.


TUNISIA - Politics 
PARTIES PREPARE FOR ELECTIONS  
According to observers of Tunisia's political scene, the UDU party is to submit candidates for the October legislative elections in 25 districts. The final lists of the UDU candidates are to be examined by the party's National Council that will meet on September 18th, 1999. Media sources say that many independent politicians and candidates have expressed their wish to join the UDU. Its National Council is scheduled to examine such requests during its meeting this week .
