ALGERIA/FRANCE - Relations 
BOUTEFLIKA AND JOSPIN MET IN NEW YORK President Bouteflika met with the French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin in New York during the UN's general assembly. The meeting lasted 2 hours and was considered by Jospin as a "historical chance and an opportunity" to jump-start the Algeria-France relations. In response to Jospin's statement, Bouteflika also highlighted "the beginning of a normalization process in the relations between the two countries."

ALGERIA - Airlines Sahara Airlines Takes Off with First Inaugural Flights Algeria's third private airline carrier finally took off last week. Sahara Airline started with two jets linking Algiers with the southern airport of Sidi Mehdi in the province of Touggourt where the company maintains its headquarters.
