TUNISIA - PRIVATIZATION
PACE OF PRIVATIZATION TO SPEED UP
Privation in Tunisia is set to pick up pace in the next two years. That’s at least what Fethi Mardassi, the minister of international cooperation and foreign investment has announced recently.

ALGIERS: FROM A SUPER-CAPITAL TO A PROVINCE (WILAYA)
Algiers has changed its status. For the last three years Algiers has held the special status of Super-Capital (Gouvernorat) but the government reversed this status and transformed Algiers into a Wilaya or province as it was in the past.

The Algerian Debt And France
The visit to France this week of the Algerian finance minister, Abdelatif Benachenou, began with a meeting held with Francois David, the head of the French foreign trade guarantee and insurance fund, Coface. The topic of their meeting focused primarily on the credit risk of French companies that trade with or invest in Algeria.


Seven Companies Compete for a Moroccan VSAT License
The Moroccan telecom watchdog and regulatory agency ANRT (Agence Nationale de Réglementation des Télécommunications) has received applications from 15 companies competing for 3 Vsat licenses. Only 7 of these companies remain officially in competition as the remaining firms dropped out of the race. ANRT is expected to make a final decision at the end of March.


Italian Chief Anti-Mafia Enforces in Algiers
General Carlo Alfriedo, the top Italian anti-Mafia enforcer, was in Algiers this week to share his views on anti-terrorism strategies and the fight against organized crime. Gen. Alfriedo spoke to an audience of Algerian police officers in their academy in Chateauneuf, Algiers. In the audience were Colonel Ali Tounsi, the head of the Algerian police, the chief of the investigation office (police judiciaire) Mr. Afani, and his officer in charge of the city of Algiers, Mr. Boufania.

CEO Begins Debate on His Company’s Privatization
This week, the state-owned pharmaceutical company Saidal celebrated its eleventh year and its top executive, Ali Aoun, did not hesitate to say that if it were up to him, he would float 60% of the company’s capital into the new stock exchange.
