ALGERIA'S RABAH BITAT DIED IN PARIS


Rabah Bitat, one of the six men credited for coordinating the start of the Algerian war of independence died of a heart attack last week in Paris.



Moroccan Economy

The draft budget for June-December 2000 proposes a 44.5% increase in public investment to Dh13.2 billion, in addition to Dh13.6 billion in investments by State-owned enterprises, Dh6.8 billion by the Hassan II Development Fund, Dh3 billion by local authorities, and Dh1.7 billion from special Treasury accounts.

Sonatrach organized last week in Algiers its 4h conference on science and technology. The conference was an opportunity for Sonatrach and its partners to reassess their business and make further deals. The closing of the conference was chaired by Chekib Khelil, Algeria's energy minister in presence of representatives of most foreign companies active in the Algerian energy sector such as the British-American BP-Amoco, Malaysia's Petronas, Spain's Cepsa and Australia's BHP.
